The Islamic State extremist group has nothing to do with religion, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the annual meeting with journalists at his Astana-based Akorda Residence December 21.

“Those belonging to the Islamic State have no national or religious affiliations”, he said. According to him, the group is joined by those coming from Europe, Central Asia, other regions. He emphasized that the “mercenaries are working for monetary rewards”. “The entire world is uniting against chaos-entailing terrorism. I don’t support the idea that Islam is associated with terrorism. Genuine Islam proclaims peace”, he said.

“The Quran names a murderer an enemy of the entire human race. Terrorism should be seen as something acting against the entire humanity. And we should keep younger generations away from that”, he said.
